Nyege Nyege International Music Festival line up revealed

The celebrated Nyege Nyege International Music Festival returns to Uganda, at the source of the Nile River in Jinja this September at Nile Discovery Beach.

The 2017 edition of promises to showcase the best of influential and diverse musical acts such as: Cameroonian sensation Reniss of ‘La Sauce’ fame, who will be appearing alongside multitalented rapper/producer Jovi who also hails from the West African nation. Ghanaian DJ and Producer Gafacci will be showcasing the best of his distinctive electronic sound. South Africa’s Cruel Boyz, Gqom will also be appearing alongside the likes of Lisbon’s Batida king Dj NK, Italian percussive performance artists Ninos Du Brasil, Germany’s Harmonious Thelonious, Ireland outernationalist Peter Power and dancefloor legend DJ Marcelle (NE). Sisso Records will give Uganda its first taste of the popular 170bpm Singeli music which has taken Tanzania by storm. There will also be a special performance by British DJs Moxie, A.G., Anu and Skinny Macho.

Domadana Kadodi Performers and Ennanga Vision – the collaboration with Owiny Sigoma’s Jesse Hackett and Buganda Cultural Ensemble’s Albert Ssempeke will be among artists who will be showcasing the diverse and rich traditional music from Uganda.

 The Nyege Nyege Festival was established in 2015 with the aim of connecting underground musicians from around the continent and has since earned a reputation as one of the best new music festivals in the world and credited as one of the avenues for promoting electronic music across the continent.

The 2016 edition attracted a total of 200 performers. Other acts who have performed at the festival in previous edition include: Kuduro pioneer DJ Marfox, satirical Ghanaian Hip Hop acts FOKN Bois, Scottish soundsystem Mungo’s Hi-Fi, Niger-based synth pioneer Mamman Sani, South African house producer Aero Manyelo,  Burkinabe rapper Joey Le Soldat, North African electronic music collective Arabstazy, Senegalese electronic producer Ibaaku and Mozambican/ Ghanaian duo Gato Preto
