R. Kelly Faces 10 Counts Of Sexual Abuse

American R&B superstar is on the news again. The singer has been charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

R. Kelly surrendered himself to the police after a warrant of arrest was issued against him earlier on.

R. Kelly has been in the news since the period leading to the end of 2018 after a docu-series dubbed ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ was released.

The documentary featured alleged Kelly victims who were narrating how the singer had abused them over time. Most of the victims in the docu-series were abused as minors.

This would be the second time the singer is facing sexual abuse charges. In late 2000s the singer was aquitted of related charges in the only case that made it to trial. The singer was back to making music selling even more records.

Over the past two decades, the singer has made headlines and fought sexual abuse claims-many settled out of court-and managed to survive but this time round the singer is facing an even tougher battle.

The #MuteRKelly movement has gained momentum as more and more people join in both online and offline.

The anti-R. Kelly push has succeeded in many fronts leading to cancellation of various Kelly concerts and was eventually dropped by Sony Music.

The 52 year old continues to deny all the allegations against him.

Each of the counts against Kelly carries a sentence of 3 to 7 years. The current charges involve 4 victims.
