The Independent Goes Web Only

Things are changing in the UK media landscape as one of the top newspapers The Independent goes digital.

The Independent, set up in 1986, has today announced that it is seizing its print operations and shifting to the digital platform.

The owners of the publication say the move will ensure a profitable future, as newspapers across the world look for ways to address dwindling revenues.

ESI Media, the owners of the publication have said that there is likelihood that some of its employees will lose their jobs.

The shift to digital will however create 25 new digital content roles together with a subscription based app plus extend its editorial operations.

The last edition of the Independent and Independent on Sunday will be printed on Saturday March, 26 and Sunday March, 20 respectively.
