Tunisian musician Smadj rocks Nairobi

It started with a week of studio recordings at Ketebul studios followed by an charged performance in the Kenyan capital as Tunisian Born musician Smadj, together with top class Kenyan musicians, jazzed Nairobi with incredible music.

The band that included Aaron Rimbui-east Africa’s finest pianist, Mbarak Ali Haji-Taarab Music composer, Mwanate Kibwana Shamauya-vocalist, Bado-vocalist,Asaph Uzele-the guitarist and Emma The Drummer made avocados fall from the nearby tree as the audience gyrated in the harmony of musical communication.

The passion on stage showed the musical language that transcends culture and language. The Oud, Smadj favourite instrument, would shout as the piano replied under the groan of the base guitar which, reverberated at the heart of the drum set. Silently, the Swahili accordion would harm an agreement sending the stage into frenzy.  The May 14, show left an audience yarning for more and a lasting memory of great music.
