Uganda hosts 9th edition of the Bayimba International Festival
Ugandans are yet to hang up their dancing shoes after the Nyege Nyege International Festival that ended a few days ago in Jinja. This time round Kampala will be hosting the 9th Edition of the Bayimba International festival, the three day event which kicks off Friday 16-18 at the Uganda National Theatre, brings together talent from upcoming and established artists in various disciplines.
The event features performances from international artists; Germany based American poet and Hip Hop artist Akua Naru who is on her African tour, South Africa’s songstress Tribute ‘Birdie’ Mboweni, Moroots a multi-talented Ugandan saxophonist, singer and songwriter, Iryn Namubiru among other acts. Right from Blip Discs from UK, Santuri Africa, DJ Zhao and DJ Wurzelholz from Denmark, will be among the DJ’s who are set to ignite the fun at the event, including various dance crews from Africa. The Kampala fest will also feature Kenya’s reggae Band Gravitti and Blood brother Band from Uganda.
“Lamentations from Zimbabwe”, a play about sexual abuse and the position of the Girl child in the African society, “Empala Kitale”, and “Foursum” are among the plays that will be showcased at the festival together with “Cycological”, a film on how to change the world one bicycle at a time and “Nothing for Mahala”.
Uganda’s visual artist Robinah Nansubuga will curate an art exhibition besides a photography showcase dubbed Dads engaging “Swedish dads” and “Ugandan dads” in a dialogue with particular intent to interrogate family reconstruction of gender roles and negative gender stereotypes. Kkoolo Fashion Show and SEED Uganda Fashion Show will be showcasing brilliant display of the latest in African fashion. Babishai Niwe poets and Lantern Meet of Poets both from Uganda are also lined up for the event.
The Bayimba International Festival of the Arts is an original Ugandan fest, which offers a platform for Uganda’s finest and upcoming talents to showcase their skills as they share the stage with international acts. The festival focuses on various arts such as; visual arts, music, drama, film and comedy among others.
