UK Rapper TY Succumbs to Coronavirus Aged 47

The reputable Hip Hop artist has been in the hospital for several weeks after he contracted coronavirus. 

Ty was reportedly on a medically induced coma after his admission in early April; his condition later improved, according to a The Guardian report. The rapper left the ICU in mid-April.

Ty, born Ben Chijioke to Nigerian immigrants was a revered artist in the UK music scene, his witty, conscious lyrics saw him help put the UK HIp Hop scene on the global stage with unrivaled Boom Bap execution. His story-lines helped him cultivate a solid fanbase.

The rapper was nominated for the Mercury Prize for his album Upwards in 2004. His debut album, Awkward, was released in 2001 a time when the US Underground scene was winning the hearts of many fans who sought a different style of rap that is not overshadowed by commercial gimmicks.

The rapper later added other albums including Closer & Special Kind Of Fool to his music catalog. His latest solo project is titled ‘A Work of Heart’ and released in 2018. Other projects include the Kick Snare and An Idea 1 & 2.

last year he formed the group Kingdem featuring two other members Blak Twang and Rodney P.

In the course of his music career, he has worked with the likes of Roots Manuva, De La Soul, and Soweto Kinch, among other notable acts.
